Haley Puts World On Notice…

The United States took a very measured step last night. We are prepared to do more, but we hope that will not be necessary.

Nikki Haley US Ambassador to United Nations

Trump apparently has not learned from the mistakes of the past. In 2013 Trump was solidly against military action in Syria. He was right then, now, as POTUS, he is wrong for striking a sovereign nation that had not engaged in aggression against the USA.

Our aggression against Iraq in 2003 based on false claims Saddam had weapons of mass destruction  has turned out very badly for the region and the world. Whether we want to accept it or not ISIS is a result of that ill-advised invasion, and, the continued destruction and loss of life has continued. With no end in sight. This should have taught us that we have no business meddling in the affairs of Middle Eastern nations.

Yet Trump, needing to distract from his less than mediocre performance since taking office chose to reverse his position on Syria and strike, an unprovoked act of aggression against a sovereign nation that had not attacked us. Certainly the MIC (military industrial complex) that President Eisenhower warned us of in 1961 is happy with Trump’s decision. It keeps the military doing what it is trained to do, reign down destruction, ad the money poring in to the industries that support war.

So Nikki has put the world community on notice that the USA is prepared to do more. All options are on the table (sabre rattling) and the neo con right is head over heels that we now have a Commander in Chief  willing to show strength. Hannity of Faux News says, as he puffs out his chest, America is Back. We have a sense this may not turn out well for anyone.

U.S. officials said a total 59 tomahawk missiles were launched from destroyers USS Porter and USS Ross in the Mediterranean Sea over a half-hour span beginning at 7:36 p.m. ET on Thursday. The strikes were aimed at the Shayrat Air Base in Syria‘s Homs province, where an aircraft carrying the chemical weapons in Tuesday’s attack is believed to have taken off.

“The intent here wasn’t just to punish; it was deter future use,” retired Vice Adm. Robert Harward, an ABC News contributor and the former deputy commander of U.S. Central Command who turned down the role of national security adviser after Michael Flynn’s resignation, told ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Friday.

The Shayrat Air Base has been one of Russia’s main airfields in Syria, serving as a forward operating base for Russian attack helicopters to support Assad regime offensives in Homs province amid Syria’s ongoing conflict.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the United States did not discuss the military strike with Russian President Vladimir Putin or political leadership in Moscow either before or after it occurred. But the U.S. military said it communicated with its Russian counterpart to minimize any chance of Russian causalities, particularly any Russians operating out of the targeted air base.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who blamed Syria’s leader for the chemical weapons attack, said on Thursday night that the airstrikes were in the “vital national security interest” of the United States.

  1. I’ve written dozens of times that Trump has no core values or policies, for that matter. He’s for whatever sounds good at the moment. It’s presidenting by impulse and not deliberation, which is mind-numbingly insane, considering the kind of power Trump has in his little hands.

Trump was emphatic while campaigning that he would put America FIRST! And not be distracted by wars in the M.E. His first test? He does completely the opposite of what he promised and what he incessantly criticized President Obama about when Mr. Obama asked Congress for authorization to bomb limited targets in Syria.

Trump is a maniac and a danger to not just us, but the world.

  2. Seems like it was a spur-of-the-moment decision by a very impulsive president. Tactics-wise, $92 million worth of cruise missiles with about
30 total tons of HE were involved and reports are that the base is already
back in use. Strategy-wise, we note his request for huge defense outlays
at the expense of social, health and even diplomatic entities; and a seeming lack of coordination with allies, or even congress. Our interesting times continue.

    1. Indeed BB Idaho. Trump is unpredictable, impulsive, and therefore dangerous. Did I mention unprincipled?

We are in for a long haul of Trump moronic behavior. Same republicans and conservatives must be beside themselves. Then there’s the 36%. A group for which there is no explanation. Other than they are malcontents and anti everything government does.

  3. No name for the 1st comment? I didn’t know you could do that. Looks easy to spoof someone, however. Just enter whatever name you like. Obviously this “Sue” is not the Sue we know. I think she was ready to start blogging again when it looked like Hillary was going to be our next potus, and decided not to after the election was stolen.

Incidentally, I think Hillary would also have acted. Without Congressional approval? I’d like to think not. Trump, on the other hand, did say he wasn’t going to get us involved in Syria. And criticized President Obama when it looked like he might. Now Trump does what, if Obama had done it the WYD crowd would have went wild, and they cheer him. And are eager for war with North Korea!

I’m thinking that NO MATTER WHAT Trump does the WYD types will sing his praises. Trump is a maniac and a danger to us and the world, as Commenter #1 (whoever said person is. Maybe Luke?) points out. BTW, there was (I’m pretty sure) a “Sue” comment on WYD that linked to sue.com.

    1. Dervish, ya can’t spoof me because when I have to approve your comment your moniker is visible to me.

I agree that Hillary would very likely have acted as you say. She is no dove.

I see you spend time at WYD and even comment. Have a blast, I know I did 🙂 But, that crowd is as crazy as Trump, maybe even crazier, if that is even possible.

I know who commenter #1 is. It’s not Luke. Sue linked to a menu of thing on hr comment on my Blogger post directing folks here. Maybe Sue is Luke. Wh cares? Not I. Just going to wed out the undesirables…

  4. I just checked in here to see your response to my comment and that’s how I found out that a “Sue” copied and pasted it to your blogger RN USA. But I looked at the time stamp on both my comment and the “Sue” comment. My time stamp is AFTER the “Sue” comment. How can that be, since “Sue” copied and pasted my comment over at your other blog?? There are a lot of tricksters over at WYD. For months they came to my blog and copied and pasted comments I made and comments made by other people. They’re a bunch of mental cases at Lisa’s Sh*t Pit.
