  1. It’s depressing to witness our fellow Americans excuse and defend Trump’s indefensible behavior. Partisanship is killing America, and the elevation of a deeply flawed, incompetent like Trump to the presidency is the result of blind partisanship.Right wingers who come to my blog continue to carp about Mr. Obama’s lack of experience when he became POTUS, and in many ways he was inexperienced, but he was never the embarrassment to our democracy that Trump is. Mr. Obama had his faults, but his basic decency was always evident, something Trump will never be able to fake because he doesn’t know what it is.

Here’s Michael Gerson, a conservative, writing about the “love fest” Trump claimed he had during his meeting with Republican senators the other day:

“…many” of these senators see in Trump — outside of his brain’s very possible physical deterioration — a “dangerously unstable, divisive, childish, nasty, deceptive, self-deluded, morally unfit, deeply unconservative [president] and thus badly wrong on some of the largest issues of our time” (as far, that is, as genuine conservatives are concerned). Corroborating Brooks and Gerson is a Hill story: Some “senators were [dismayed] by the meeting, which they complained lacked substance and focus. ‘He said the tax cuts are “going to be great,” without going into any detail,’ said one GOP senator [anonymously]…. ‘He just went on and on, talking about his accomplishments and going off on tangents. It was inane,’ the lawmaker added.”

  2. RN, does this sound familiar? YOu’ve taken a lot of criticism for following your Conservative conscience, staying true to your principles. Hang in there. You will be vindicated and the 30 percenters will regret teir allegiance to trump. Here’s Charlie Sykes, a Conservative:

Jeff Flake is about to find out what it means to be a political orphan.

I know because I’ve been there and I can give Flake a sense of what he can expect now that he has left the safe confines of the tribe. His conservative credentials will be attacked and his motives questioned; he’ll be filleted as a sellout, a RINO, a Judas, and even as a closet liberal. Even though he and Senator Bob Corker gave voice to what many of their colleagues say in private, they will become pariahs among many of the groups that had once been allies. And they will lose friends.

I suspect Flake already knows some of this. Although his announcement that he would not seek reelection came as a surprise, it was also somewhat anti-climactic. Ever since he published his searing indictment of Donald Trump, Conscience of a Conservative, Flake has been a dead man walking.

    1. Staying true to my principles has made both conservative and liberal “enemies” for me on the internet. My conservatism was my grandfather’s liberalism. A proud man who would not take a dime of help from anyone yet would give you the shirt off his back if you were in need.

He carried no dept, worked 50 hours a week, accepted his responsibilities completely, and accepted the consequences of his desicions, both good and bad. Both he and my father were my examples of what a good man is. Neither EVER compromised there principles for anyone.

My grandfather had a saying, “If you call me a son of a bitch when I’m alive call me a son of a bitch when I’m dead”. I feel EXACTLY the same way.

I will be doing a post one day which some cons and some libs will probably won’t like. But it will be what it is and anyone who doesn’t like it can call me a son of a bitch!
