Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

William Ernest Henley (1849–1903)

A man who knew hardship and adversity up close and personal. He understood very well that it must be confronted and fought.  As well as understanding inner strength and where it really comes from.

Spicer Goes Contrite…

Trump’s White House Press Secretary is feeling sorry for himself in the aftermath of  his inaccurate and politically motivated comparison of Hitler and Assad. A comment meant to make Hitler out to be less horrific and inhuman than Assad. Spicer made the statement as one justification for Trump’s decision to strike the Syrian military base .  A blundering idiotic statement that has resulted in a call for Spicer’s resignation or firing by Trump.

Video here.

A repentant Sean Spicer admitted Wednesday he “let the president down” when he claimed that Adolf Hitler didn’t use chemical weapons — ignoring the use of gas chambers to try and exterminate the Jewish people in a badly drawn comparison toSyrian President Bashar Assad.

“It’s painful to myself to know I did something like that,” an unusually subdued Spicer said during a live interview onstage at the Newseum in Washington with MSNBC’s Greta Van Susteren.

Spicer is actively working damage control, both for himself and his president. An activity that regrettably will likely deliver the results he desires. It shouldn’t.

Spicer And His Hitler – Assad Comparison…

“You had someone who was despicable as Hitler who didn’t even sink to using chemical weapons,”

White House Press Secretary, Sean Spicer 4/11/17

Trump promised the best and the brightest. Well lets check this one out.

The Holocaust was the systematic annihilation of six million Jews by the Nazi regime during World War 2. In 1933 approximately nine million Jews lived in the 21 countries of Europe that would be occupied by Germany during the war. By 1945 two out of every three European Jews had been killed.

So, what method did Hitler use to kill 5.967 million innocent souls.

The German extermination camps or death camps were designed and built by Nazi Germany during World War II (1939–45) to systematically kill millions of Jews, Slavs, Communists, and others whom the Nazis considered “Untermenschen“, primarily by gassing, but also in mass executions and through extreme work under starvation conditions.

Either Spicer is ignorant of history or he is just plain stupid. As  the spokesperson representing the POTUS he is an unmitigated disaster.  As uninformed as Trump is in many ways he certainly is aware of the history of the Holocaust.

Here is what Nancy Pelosi had to say in her statement regarding Spicer’s ignorance:

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s statements regarding the Holocaust:

“While Jewish families across America celebrate Passover, the chief spokesman of this White House is downplaying the horror of the Holocaust.

“Sean Spicer must be fired, and the President must immediately disavow his spokesman’s statements.  Either he is speaking for the President, or the President should have known better than to hire him.”

On this Pelosi is absolutely correct. Trump should have knwn better than to hire and now he must fire.
